Thanks for the great link! I'll follow up with him tomorrow! As I contemplate getting into competition (just to improve my own skills), I want to get involved in something that is more challenging than moving the target carrier at the range. I figure this is a low pressure way to ease into dealing with goals and rules set by someone else.

Great guy (and I'm not just saying that because he linked to me today). I won't give you his e-mail address (privacy and all that), but if you drop a comment on his blog I'm sure he'll be happy to get ahold of you and share information.

Basically, he was so impressed with the Appleseed program that he now helps run the shoots. He should be able to give you the skinny on exactly what to expect.

I've never shot one, but I'm familiar with the "three position" techniques that they encourage. I've read differing opinions about the Appleseed program itself. But most of the negatives have revolved around the contention that "three position" rifle shooting is not for beginners" (I would beg to differ) and that the techniques learned are not useful in real life situations (again...I would beg to differ).

These are the exact same techniques that have been taught in the military as the basic foundation of riflery for decades.

It's kind of like learning any sport. You've gotta get the fundamentals down before you can get into the fancy stuff. Before you can drive down the court and pound that slam dunk home, you've got to know how to dribble, how to move with the ball, how to jump.

That's what Appleseed and three position teaches...the fundamentals of riflery.
